Dr. Charles “Chuck” Keenan, 72, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at All Saints Parish – St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Father Mauro Sanchez will celebrate Mass with Father Richard Ries concelebrating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2017, with a Parish Rosary at 5:00 p.m., and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at St. James Catholic Church. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church.

Memorials can be made in Chuck’s name to St. James Catholic Church and/or Iowa Podiatric Medical Society Foundation in care of the family.

Charles Everette Keenan was born December 23, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Charles Sr. and Shirley (Lauson) Keenan. He attended school in South Sioux City and later high school in Sioux City. He graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic School in 1963. He attended college in Omaha and did his undergrad at Creighton University. He received his Doctorate in Podiatry in 1969 from the Illinois College of Podriatric Medicine in Chicago. Following college, he practiced with his father in Sioux City until moving to Le Mars.

He married Michaelle Callahan in 1969. To this union, three children were born: Errin, Sean, and Kourtnee. They later divorced.

He was united in marriage to Ronda Charlson on October 4, 1980 in Le Mars.

After moving to Le Mars, he started his own practice. Chuck worked in Podiatric Medicine for over 45 years, retiring on June 1, 2014. He was past president of the Iowa Podiatric Society. He was the Iowa Representative to the Midwest Podiatry Conference. He was also the state delegate to the American Podiatric Medical Association and served on the board of the Iowa Podiatric Medical Society Foundation.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trap shooting. He was the 1961 Grand American Class “A” Clay Target Champion, 1961 Nebraska Clay Target Champion, 1962 Grand American Junior Clay Target Champion, and 1962 Nebraska Junior Clay Target Champion. He was a member of the Le Mars Sportsman’s Club, Duck’s Unlimited, and Pheasants Forever. He and Ronda loved to travel and spend winters in Florida and summers at Lake Okoboji. He was also a fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. But most of all, he loved the times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of over 36 years, Ronda of Le Mars; a son: Errin Keenan of South Sioux City, NE; a son: Sean (Carey) Keenan of Naperville, IL and their children, Olivia and Grant; a daughter: Kourtnee (Todd) Fries of Overland Park, KS, and their children, Gabriella, Meghan, and Keenan; his cousin: Donna (Chuck) Juergens of Dubuque, IA; his in laws: Arliss (Doug) Wickstrom of Bellaire, MI, Roxanne Charlson of Cambridge, MN, and Steve (Pam) Charlson of Traverse City, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and wife: Donald and Trudy Keenan; his aunt and uncle: Maureen and John Hartnett; his father and mother in law: Ernest and Anna Charlson; a brother in law: Ron Charlson; and his hunting companion, “Spice”.
