LE MARS, Iowa - Margaret "Meg" Holmes, 51, of Ida Grove, Iowa, formerly of Le Mars, died of a cerebral hemmorrage Friday, July 30, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church E.L.C.A., with the Rev. Jean Morse officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, with an honor guard provided by St. Vincent's Nurses Alumni Association. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mrs. Holmes was born Sept. 17, 1947, in Le Mars, the daughter of E.R. "Bud" and Mabel (McDougal) Scholer. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was raised in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1965.
She married Jack Holmes on May 30, 1981, in Le Mars. She graduated from St. Luke's Medical Center School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1965. She also graduated from Westmar College with a B.A.S. in 1978, and the University of South Dakota with a M.S.S. in business administration, guidance counceling and personal service in 1981.
She was employed as a staffing director with Marian Hospital (known as Mercy Medical Center - Sioux City) in Sioux City for 10 years, as an agent for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance in Ida Grove, a plant nurse for Byron Originals in Ida Grove, Dr. Alan B. Vasher in Ida Grove and since 1992 a staffing director for Midwest Industries in Ida Grove.
She was a member of National Governor's Association, National Association of State Workforce Investment Policy Council, BCIG Citizens Advisory Committee, Denison Job Corps Vocational Advisory Committee, Tech Prep Area XII Superintendent's Advisory Committee, School to Work Area XII Regional Member, Society for Human Resourse Management and Siouxland Job Service Employer's Council.
She served as chairperson of State Workforce Development Board for the State of Iowa, and as an officer with Ida Grove Economic Development Corporation board of directors.
She was a past member of Plains Area Mental Health board of directors, New Iowa Schools Development Corporation, Battle Creek Ida Grove School System, Tech Prep Area XII Implementation Team, Ida Board Chamber of Commerce board of directors, Horn Memorial Hospital board of directors, Council on Sexual Assualt and Domestic Violence, Iowa Federation of Republican Women, Ida County Republican Central Committee and Ida County Republican Women.
She was appointed by the Governor of Iowa to be a member of Governor's 21st Century Workforce Council and was previously appointed to serve on Workforce Development Council, State Board of Mortuary Science Examiners and 3B Judicial Nominating Commission.
She enjoyed cokking, reading and collecting Christmas ornaments.
Survivors include her husband; a stepson, Robert Holmes of Scottsdale, Ariz.; her father of Le Mars; a brother and his wife, Steve and Sue Scholer of Omaha, Neb.; a sister and her husband, Barbara and Pat Birmingham of Bloomfield, Neb.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Larry and Dawn Holmes of Springfield, Va.; and a nieces and nephew.
She was preceded in death by her mother and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester McDougal and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scholer.
Memorials may be directed to Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
