Evelyn D. Claesson, 97 of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly from Akron, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Tabitha Health Care in Lincoln, Nebraska.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Rexwinkel-Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a private family burial prior to the services at Riverside Cemetery in Akron.
Evelyn Dena Delperdang was born March 25, 1919 in Struble, Iowa to Sophie M. (Popken) Delperdang and Peter H. Delperdang. Evelyn grew up in Sioux City, Iowa. Evelyn was united in marriage to Fred R. Claesson, Jr. on April 4, 1950. They lived in Akron and farmed east of Akron for 30 years before selling the farm and moving to Akron where they resided until 2003 when they moved to LeMars, Iowa. Evelyn moved back to Akron in 2008 and then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 2011 to be closer to her daughter and family.
Evelyn has been a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Akron serving in most capacities and on many boards. She was the 1st president in 1950, and a charter member of Friendship and Service Club, a 50 year member and is also a Golden member. She was a member of Chapter JC, P.E.O. for over 40 years. She is trained to be a PEER at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, Iowa visiting home-bound residents. She served on the Siouxland Aging Services Inc. Board of Plymouth County.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Steve) Tonkin of Lincoln, Nebraska; two grandsons: Riley (Kathleen) Tonkin of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Ryan (Katie) Tonkin of Syracuse, Nebraska; and 4 great grandchildren: Ryder Earl, Reagan Macy, Kendall Marie, Isabelle Grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; and a sister, Irene.
