Mary Ann Schmidt, 87, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars. Reverend Dr. Jean Zietlow and Reverend Chris Meier will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel-Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mary Ann Josephine Mairose Schmidt was born July 4, 1929 on the family farm in Elgin Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard and Philomine (Braun) Mairose. Mary Ann attended St. Joseph’s School in Le Mars, Iowa. After graduation, she worked for Iowa Public Service for several years. She also worked at JC Penney’s in the catalog department and later was a secretary at Kluckhohn Elementary School in Le Mars.

Mary Ann met her beloved husband, LuVois Schmidt at the Avalon Ballroom in Remsen. They were married in 1950 and made their home in Le Mars. Throughout their marriage they participated in ballroom and square dancing. They enjoyed traveling and went to Branson, Missouri every year, attended many fiddling events, appreciated blue grass music and camped throughout a large part of the country. LuVois passed away January 4, 2009.

As a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Mary Ann sang in the church choir for over 50 years. Being active in numerous church committees and activities, she taught Sunday and Bible School for many years. Mary Ann’s biggest joy was being a homemaker, a mother and grandmother. She faithfully attended school activities for her children and grandchildren.

Mary Ann is survived by her children: Mike and Connie (Clarey) Schmidt of Sioux City, IA, and Karen and Ken Schnepf of Omaha, NE; her grandchildren: Joshua Paul Schmidt; Corey and Amy (Sargent) Schmidt and their children: Isabella, Sawyer, and Penelope; Lindsey (Schmidt) and Jeremy Spieker and their children: Mason and Marlie; Matt and Munawar (Ahmed) Schnepf and their children: Owen and Alastair; Christa (Schnepf) and Steve Cottam and their children: Maggie and Lucy; Ellie (Schnepf) and Matt Steinbrink and their children: Livie and Graham; her sister, Jane Dalton; her brother, Dan and Erma Mairose; her sisters in law, Joyce Langel, Phyllis Schmidt, LaDonna Poulos; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mary Ann was proceeded in death by her husband, LuVois in 2009; her parents Ben and Philomine (Braun) Mairose; in-laws William and Pearl (Frerichs) Schmidt; brothers in law: Marlowe Schmidt, John Poulos, Don Dalton, and Marvin Langel; and nephews: Jamie Langel and Paul Langel.
