Emil Grosenheider

Emil Grosenheider, 96, of Le Mars, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars.

Emil R. Grosenheider Jr. was born Feb. 19, 1918, on the family farm near Le Mars, the son of Emil Sr. and Anna (Pageler) Grosenheider.

He attended country school in Plymouth County.

He was united in marriage to Fern Kounkel on April 6, 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in rural Hinton.

Emil and Fern made their home in Le Mars. Emil worked for Sheehan Produce, in Le Mars.

Later, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Le Mars. He continued working for Sheehan Produce. Later, he went to work for the packing house in Le Mars until retiring.

Fern died Feb. 6, 1999.

He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, in Le Mars. He was also a longtime member of the Wasmer American Legion Post 241, of Le Mars. Through the years, Emil enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends and family. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his daughters: La Rae Smith, of Everly, and Lana (Mark) Sitzmann, of Windsor, Colo.; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a sister: Arlene (Bill) Grady, of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fern; his daughter: Connie Pearson; four brothers: Jack, Alvin, Lloyd and Bill; and four sisters: Lula McClintock, Minnie Ruether, Lorraine Pennings and Annie Charlson.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., in Le Mars.

The Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow and the Rev. Peter Rosenkvist will officiate. Burial with military honors conducted by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241, of Le Mars, will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, at Carlsen Funeral Home, in Le Mars.

Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church.
