Dennis "Mert" Beeck, 62, of Akron, Iowa passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Hawarden Community Hospital in Hawarden, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2012 at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Pastor Doug Collins of the First Baptist Church in Akron will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.

Dennis Lee Beeck was born November 21, 1949 in Akron, Iowa the son of Chris and Edith (Richters) Beeck. He was raised in Akron and attended school in Akron. He graduated from Akron High School in 1969. Following high school, he went work for the Farmers COOP in Akron. Mert was united in marriage to Belle Gardner on February 21, 1972 in Vermillion, South Dakota. After working for the COOP for nearly 20 years, he began working as a self employed roofer in the Akron area. In 2002, Mert retired due to his health. Through the years, Mert enjoyed horseshoes, gardening, and tinkering with electronics. One of Mert''s greatest joys was playing guitar. He played in the Old Time Fiddlers in Yankton, South Dakota for a few years. But most all, Mert loved the times spent with his family, especially his granddaughter, Kendra. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of over 39 years, Belle of Akron; his daughter: Jeni Lyn Beeck of Akron and her daughter, Kendra Jo Lyn Beeck; his sister: Linda Parker of Sioux City, IA; his brother in law: Byron Gardner of Akron; two nephews: Mike Parker and Mark Parker (Ruth) all of Sioux City, IA; his niece: Sundee Anderson (Jeff) of Sioux City, IA; two great nephews: Christopher Anderson and Casey Anderson of Sioux City, IA; his great niece: Alexandria Anderson of Sioux City, IA; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jim Richters; and a brother in law: Larry Parker.
