Norine Barinsky, 82, of Akron, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011 at her daughter''s home in Akron.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Jean Morse will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2011, with the family present after 5:00 p.m., and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron.
Norine Hilma Carrell was born April 27, 1929 on a farm in Union County, South Dakota, the daughter of Merle Wendell and Hilma Christina (Johnson) Carrell. She was baptized and confirmed at Brule Creek Lutheran Church. She attended Peterson Country School, District #73 in Union County, South Dakota. Later, she attended high school in Elk Point and graduated from Elk Point High School in 1947. She enrolled in Business School and then went to work for Western Union in Chicago. Later, she moved to Milwaukee and worked as a secretary before moving to the Riverside area of Sioux City to work for Blue Cross. It was during this time that she met her future husband. She was united in marriage to Lowell Barinsky on September 9, 1961 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point. They continued to make their home in Riverside. In 1965, they moved to the family farm northeast of Akron. They continued living there until moving to a homestead south of Akron. Norine stayed home from work to help with raising their family. Later on, she went to work for the Akron-Westfield School district as a custodian. In 1978, they moved to Akron. Norine retired from the school after over 29 years of service. Following her retirement, Norine substituted at the school for a few years. For the past five years, she has been the Head Start bus monitor in Akron. Lowell passed away March 6, 2011. Norine has been a member of Brule Creek Lutheran Church, Riverside Lutheran in Sioux City, St. John''s Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Akron, and for the past many years, Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron where she had been involved with the church circle and altar guild. In her earlier years, she and Lowell enjoyed square dancing. They were members of the "Dudes and Dolls" Square Dancing club in Elk Point for many years. Norine enjoyed walking and going to the fitness center with friends. She also enjoyed creating pencil drawings. She and Lowell liked watching classic movies on television. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as "Nana". She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her two daughters: Brenda Puckett (Mike) of Murfreesboro, TN and their children: Kristen and Emily, and Carol Barinsky of Akron, a brother in law: Raymond Barinsky (Frances) of Branson, MO; two sisters in law: Lorraine Hamilton (Wayne) of Alcester, SD, and Eileen Onken (Lennis) of Sioux City; numerous nieces and nephews; a special cousin: Dona Grothe; and a special friend: Anita Floyd. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister: Lori Booth; a sister in law: Gladys Eden (Loren); and her husband, Lowell.
