LE MARS, Iowa - Virginia L. Thoms, 58, of Le Mars died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at her residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Thoms was born Oct. 31, 1938, in Nausau Township, Sioux County, Iowa, the daughter of Nick and Johanna (Roghair) Steenhoven. She attended country school in Sioux County for a year before moving with her family to Le Mars. She was baptized in Orange City, Iowa and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1957.

She married Jerry Thoms on Feb. 7, 1958, in Orange City. The couple farmed in Union Township for 14 years before moving to Le Mars in 1975.

Mrs. Thoms was employed with the Iowa Home for Boys in Le Mars, the Life Skills Training Center, Tyson's in Le Mars before its closing, and Well's Dairy.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing pinochle and cooking.

Survivors include her husband; two sons and their wives, Roy and Cindy and Todd and Sherry, all of Le Mars; a daughter, Staci Thoms of Le Mars; her mother of Anaheim, Calif.; a sister, Carol Steenhoven of Le Mars; two brothers, John and his wife, Lillian, of Show Low, Ariz., and Vic of Washington; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Ivan.

Pallbearers will be Lee Hemmingson, Bob Kewley, Darrell Bonderson, Roger Roghair and Keith and Bobby Harrison.
