Bert Van Essen
Huron – Bert Van Essen Jr., 74, a retired Huron Processing employee, died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Van Essen was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Sioux Center, Iowa, where he was raised and educated.
He married Doris Dambrink on Mach 8, 1943, in Grand Rapids, Mich. They lived in Grand Rapids until 1962, when they moved to Le Mars, Iowa. He worked for Wiltgens Redi Mix, Le Mars Rendering and then for Blue Ribbon Packing. They moved to Huron Processing from 1969 until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Huron.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Bert III of Gettysburg; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bertha Wellong of Prescott, Ariz.
Services begin at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Huron, with burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Le Mars Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation is 1 to 9 p.m. today at the Kuhler Funeral Home in Huron and before services Monday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or the Hope Therapeutic Riding Center in Huron.
