Darrell “Dean” Weyen, 73, of Akron, Iowa passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Pastor Susan Juilfs will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Rexwinkel-Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. The family will be present after 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all at the funeral home. Visitation will resume from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church.

Darrell Dean Weyen was born September 7, 1943 in Chatsworth, Iowa, the son of Herman and Lena (Vanderham) Weyen. He attended country school near Chatsworth. Following his schooling, he worked the elevator in Chatsworth and various places in Akron the area.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Rosenbaum on January 29, 1961 at the First Church of Christ in Akron. They made their home in Akron. In 1979, Dean went to work for the Iowa Department of Transportation in Akron as a highway technician. He retired in 2006 after 27 years of service. Pat passed away November 21, 2004 in Akron. Dean continued to live in Akron. In June of 2013, he moved to the Ridgewood Apartments in Akron.

Dean was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He and Pat enjoyed camping and going to the casinos. Dean enjoyed watching the Akron-Westfield softball and baseball teams, and the Akron Rebels. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR and the NFL. But most of all, he loved the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his children: Jeff (Sharon) Weyen of Yorktown, VA, Lori (Brad) Johannsen of Sedona, AZ, and Mark (Mary Jean) Weyen of Chatsworth, IA; 7 grandchildren: Jeffrey, Stacey, Jennifer, Josh, Eric, Tony, and Lindsey; several great grandchildren; two sisters: Betty Meyer of Akron, IA, and Dorothy “Dolly” DeVos of Sioux Center, IA; a brother: Raymond Weyen of Sioux Center, IA; a sister in law: Jo Ann Coenen of Chattanooga, TN; a brother in law: Douglas “Butch” (Paulette) Rosenbaum of Bismarck, ND; and several niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pat Weyen; two brothers in law: Lloyd Meyer and Jack DeVos; his sister in law: Helen Weyen; and a nephew, Tim Brown.
