Le Mars, Iowa – Evelyn M. Small, 82, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. Rev. Jason Larson and Rev. Kenneth Vander Ploeg will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present to greet friends from 4-7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service.

Evelyn Mardrose Donlin was born on March 6, 1928 near Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of William M. “Bill” and Lilah M. (Brown) Donlin. She attended school in Le Mars, graduating from Le Mars High School in 1946. She took a position at the Plymouth Coop as a bookkeeper. That is where she met Roscoe “Junior” Small. The couple was united in marriage on August 10, 1948 in Le Mars.

Evelyn took a short break from working to begin her family and then accepted a position at First National Bank in Le Mars. She would be at First National for over thirty years. Along with her position as an Assistant Vice President, Evelyn belonged to a national women’s banking association. During her working years, Evelyn participated in many community functions.

Evelyn was a member of First Methodist Church (now United Methodist Church of Le Mars) where she assisted with the bookkeeping. She was an avid writer of poetry, enjoyed reading, shopping and collecting nativity scenes. But most of all, Evelyn was active in the lives and events of her children and grandchildren. She and Roscoe attended numerous events and school activities.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Roscoe Small of Le Mars; daughters, Gail Grosenheider and her husband Bill of Casper, WY, Janet Van Leeuwen and her husband James, Kim Westergard and her husband Mike, and Vicki Livermore and her husband Mike all of Le Mars, IA; a son Kevin Small and his wife Tammy of Le Mars, IA; grandchildren, Lori, Chris, Dawn, Jennifer, Julie, Dave, Nick, Alex, Jake, Adam, Ross, Aaron, Adam, Tyler and Tanner; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Stephanie, Michael, Christopher, Meghan, Caitlin, Jonathan, Emily, Braden, Jada, Lennan, Mason, Bella, Lily, Gabe, Tyler, Leah, Turner and Carly; great-great-grandchildren, Alicia, Hunter and David; a sister, Lorraine Becker of Des Moines, IA; a brother Dale Donlin and his wife Pat of Le Mars, IA; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Donlin of Harlan, IA; and a special family friend Marie Singer of Le Mars, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jack and Gary Donlin; and a brother-in-law Gene Becker
