Obituary for Delton Schroeder

Delton B. Schroeder, 81, of Emerson, Iowa, formerly of Le Mars, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars with military honors conducted by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Delton Boyd Schroeder was born on October 4, 1932 in Armor, South Dakota to George and Martha (Weber) Schroeder. He graduated from high school in Geddes, South Dakota. After his education, Delton enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 10, 1951. He proudly served with security services. He received his honorable discharge on June 5, 1954 and returned home.

On December 7, 1954 Delton and LaDonna Haack were united in marriage at Remsen, Iowa. This union was blessed with six children, David, Douglas, Debra, Dennis, Daniel and Diane. Delton worked at various occupations and lived several places throughout the years. He started working with the railroad. He later worked at the Missouri River dam system in Pickstown and Yankton, South Dakota. He was a trucker and worked at a Chevy garage. He concluded his working years with the City of Le Mars.

On November 16, 1984 Delton and Joyce (Cooper) Sawin were married at Le Mars, Iowa where they made their home. Delton enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, yard work and working on their home. Delton and Joyce recently moved to Emerson, Iowa.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Joyce of Emerson, IA; his children, David of Paullina, IA, Douglas (Barbara) of Decorah, IA, Dennis (Tammy) of Sumter, SC, Daniel (Deb) of South Sioux City, NE, Debra Swift of Le Mars, IA, Diane Chindlund of Arnold’s Park, IA; numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren; step-children, Jeff (Patty) Sawin of Gurnee, IL, Julie (Randall) Lipson of Williamsburg, KS and Michelle (Mark) Evans of Emerson, IA; a sister, Dolores Greguson of Centerville, SD; and a brother, George (Arlene) Schroeder of Geddes, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Larry Swift; a sister, RaNae; step-grandson, Trevor Lipson; and a step-son, Mark Sawin.
