Obituary for Nancy Rensink

Nancy Ann (Singer) Rensink, 67, of Hinton, Iowa passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2014 in Sharpsburg, Georgia under hospice care. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars, Iowa. Rev. Janis Christensen will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church on Saturday prior to the funeral.

Nancy Ann Singer was born on September 5, 1946 in Le Mars, Iowa one of four daughters born to Merlin C. and Lois (Berkenpas) Singer. She graduated from Le Mars High School in 1964. She began taking college courses at Westmar College in Le Mars and later finished her accounting degree at the University of Southern Mississippi. Nancy took a position with Chevron Corporation in Mississippi. While living in Pascagoula, Nancy was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She served as a deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a Cub Scout leader.

Nancy returned to the area to help care for her elderly parents and worked as an accountant with Terra Chemicals in Sioux City, Iowa. She would later work for the Farmers Cooperative in Hinton, Iowa. Nancy was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars. She enjoyed cooking, baking and feeding whomever she could. She also prepared southern dishes for church events, auctions at work, the county fair, and her side business "Something Sweet, Something Southern". Her shrimp étouffée, king cakes, and mountainous apple pies were most memorable. Her home was the central gathering space while her sons were growing up. Along with feeding and entertaining others with her witty sense of humor, Nancy enjoyed gardening, crocheting, needle point and cross stitch.

Grateful to have shared her life are her three boys, Keith and Rachael Rensink and their children, Hunter, Hannah and Holland of Atlanta, Georgia, Greg and Abby Rensink and their children Chloe and Aubrie of Daphne, Alabama and Eric Rensink and his children Evan and Nicholas of Mobile, Alabama; an “adopted” granddaughter, Molly Lorenzen of Hinton, Iowa; three sisters, Linda and Dean Oloff of Le Mars, Iowa, Barbara and Alton Jackson of Hastings, Nebraska and Patricia Singer of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
