Dorothy J. Madden, 94, of Le Mars passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.

Reverend Tim Geitz from Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time and following the service during a time of lunch and fellowship, all at the funeral home on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Steve Diekevers, Don DeBoer, David Schlotman, Lyle Diekevers, Paul Schlotman and Garry Goebel.

Dorothy Josephine Husman was born December 4, 1921, on the family farm near Fedora, SD, the daughter of Fred and Margaretha (Ressen) Husman. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, IA. She attended country school in rural SD and NW IA. She attended Hinton High School through the 9th grade, when she had to work to help support the family. She was a nanny, housekeeper, and was later employed at Wells'' Blue Bunny. She married Francis "Frank" J. Madden, March 28, 1951 at St. John''s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Frank and Dorothy farmed near Kingsley from 1951 to 1981 before moving to Le Mars. She assisted Frank on the farm and with the remodeling and managing of several rental properties throughout the years. Dorothy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed music, sewing, fishing, cooking, gardening, her family and most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very creative with her sewing. She created several life size dancing dolls with which she entertained at various nursing homes and functions in the community. Her dolls are now at the Plymouth County Museum. In December of 2006, Dorothy became a resident of the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars. Frank passed away February 12, 2007.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda and her husband Lyle Diekevers of Hospers and Sharleen and her husband David Schlotman of Sioux City; five grandchildren: Dawn and her husband Don DeBoer of Little Rock, Steve and his wife Esther Diekevers of Orange City, Allison Donnell of Belton, Mo, Amanda Donnell of Alta, IA, and Paul Schlotman of Sioux City; and six great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Frank, her parents; her siblings and their spouses: Tena Husman, Henry and Hazel Husman, Fred and Helen Husman, Marian Husman, John and Claribell Husman, Julia and Louis Baack, Albert and Lucille Husman, Christina and Clarence Carstensen, Alfred and Florence Husman.
