Melvin John Neyens, 83, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 10, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. of Le Mars, Iowa with Pastor Chris Meier officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2016 with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m., all at the Rexwinkel - Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Life Skills Training Center in Le Mars.

Melvin John Neyens was born on March 19, 1933 to Jake and Veronica (Ruhland) Neyens on the family farm in rural Plymouth County. Melvin enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Drake in 1969. Melvin was a lifelong farmer and retired from farming in 1996. Melvin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church E.L.C.A., Wasmer American Legion Post 241, and Le Mars Eagles Club.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn Neyens; son, Roger (Lori) Neyens of Le Mars, Iowa; daughter, Brenda Pierce (Bruce Lamoureux) of Elk Point, South Dakota; grandchildren: Marty (Carly) Pierce, Chris Pierce, Brandon Neyens, and Ashley Neyens; great grandchildren: Kylee and Landen Pierce; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; son, Tony Neyens; brothers: Wilbur (Joan) Neyens and Marvin (Lillian) Neyens; sister, Margaret (John) Mayrose; and two nephews.
