Obituary for Wayne Gronemeyer

Wayne L. Gronemeyer, 85, of Le Mars passed away on Friday, June 26, 2015 in Le Mars following an extended illness.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Tuesday.

Wayne Leslie Gronemeyer was born on November 15, 1929 in rural Ireton, Iowa to George William and Ethel Mae (Schuyler) Gronemeyer. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1947. On August 22, 1954, Wayne and Joyce Elaine Vogelzang were united in marriage in Sioux City, Iowa. They made their home on the family farm in Preston Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. Wayne and Joyce retired in 1994 and moved to Le Mars. Wayne was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Joyce Gronemeyer of Le Mars, IA; his daughter, Karen Brown and her husband, Greg of Cedar Rapids, IA; a son, Dean Gronemeyer and his wife, Amy of Spencer, IA; grandchildren, Kristina Brown of Orlando, FL and Jacob Gronemeyer of Spencer, IA; a sister, Irma Eilers of Sioux City, IA; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Shirley Ludwigs.
