Alvin Heeren, 86, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Friday, July 15, 2011 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, rural Le Mars, Iowa. Reverend Ben Worley will officiate. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2011, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Alvin Edwin Heeren was born March 28, 1925 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Alma (Jaster) Heeren. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars. He attended country school in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa and later high school at Central High School in Le Mars, graduating in 1943. Alvin served in the Iowa National Guard from 1948 to 1952. He was united in marriage to Gladys Bock on September 3, 1960 in Le Mars. Early on, Alvin farmed near Brunsville, Iowa before beginning his 27 year career with Sioux Tools in Le Mars. After retiring, Alvin worked part time at Bomgaars and Pamida in Le Mars. In February of this year, he became a resident of Plymouth Manor. Alvin was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars, having served a few years on the Cemetery Board. Through the years, Alvin enjoyed gardening and camping with the Woodbury Woodys Camping Club. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Gladys of Le Mars; his brother: Norman Heeren (Lois) of Akron, IA; his sister: Ida Schuette of Le Mars; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister in infancy, Mabel; and his brother in law: Dale Schuette.
