Charles "Chuck" Henry Young, born Oct. 12, 1935 in Akron, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010, after a long battle with COPD.
His parents, Ina and Walter Young; a son, Gregory Charles Young and a daughter, Stephanie Osterhaus, preceded him in death.
His wife, Linda M. Young, of Cedar Mountain; a daughter, Danielle Kay Youngwolf-Dykeman of Belvidere, Ill .; a son, Bradley Young of Chino Hills, Calif .; two grandsons, Jay Osterhaus of Minneapolis, Minn., and Austin Youngwolf and a granddaughter Alayna Youngwolf, both of Belvidere, Ill., survive him.
Chuck, as he was known, was an avid photographer. He served as fire photographer for the North Park Fire Dept. in Machesney Park, Ill. for several years and was also a member of the International Fire Photographers Association. He won many trophies for his work. He was also a freelance photographer for the Loves Park Post in Loves Park, Ill. for many years.
Chuck enjoyed traveling around the country, fishing and camping. He was a former member of the Ski Broncs water skiing club. A photo he took of one of the skier's water skiing on New Year's Day on the Rock River in Rockford, Ill. was picked up by the Associated Press and seen in foreign countries.
After coming to North Carolina in 1995, he worked for several years at Bi-Lo grocery in Hendersonville. He enjoyed meeting people and made several friends. He had to leave for medical reasons and missed it very much.
A memorial service will be held locally on Friday, April 16, 2010, at the Family Life Center next to Rocky Hill Baptist Church on Hwy. 276 at 7 pm. His ashes will be interred at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Adaville, Iowa, at the end of June.
