Businessman Allen Wernli dies unexpectedly Friday

Funeral services for Allen Wernli, 72, who lived in Le Mars since he was a year old, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John's American Lutheran church, Le Mars.

Burial will be in Le Mars Memorial cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home in Le Mars. Rev. Thomas Lee will officiate.

Mr. Wernli died unexpectedly Friday (Aug. 7, 1981) at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Allen Hahn Wernli was born March 23, 1909, at Freeport, Ill., to Otto R. and Dorothea Hahn Wernli. He came to Le Mars with his parents in 1910 and had since lived here. He retired recently from the feed and grain business.

Wilma Lee and Mr. Wernli were married June 6, 1946, in Le Mars.

He was a member of St. John's church and Le Mars Elks club. He served in the Marine Corps during World War 2 in the Pacific theater.

His survivors are his wife, Wilma, Le Mars; a daughter, Mrs. Steven (Barbara) Collins, Belmont, Mass.,; one grandson; two brothers, Kenneth Wernli, Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Donald Wernli, Dallas, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James.
