Floyd D. Wilcox

Floyd D. Wilcox, 85, of Akron died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center following a brief illness.

Services were held Monday, Dec. 29 at First Baptist Church in Akron, with Pastor Steven Miller officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Hoschiler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Walt and Ed Searls, Arval Jurgensen, Eldon Seely, Sonn Lennon, Kenny Harvey and William Meinen.

Mr. Wilcox was born Sept. 23, 1912, in rural Akron, the son of Frank and Bessie (Crow) Wilcox. He attended school in Akron, graduating from Akron High School in 1931. He farmed in Union county, S. D. from 1931 to 1937, then moved to Akron. He was employed as a electrician with J. A. Jensen. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Maxine Lake on March 6, 1946, in Akron. She died in 1982. He founded Wilcox Electric and operated it until his retirement in 1983.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge and was the first World War II commander of the Hoschler American Legion Post 186.

Survivors include three daughters, Pam and her husband Dave Schuetz of Ruidoso, N.M., Cheryl Henneous of Sioux City and Deb and her husband Butch Anderson of Akron; two sons and their wives, Terry and Stacy of Norcross, Ga. and Steve and Lisa of Akron; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Bill Johnson of Odebolt, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry; and granddaughter, Amy; and a sister, Helen Johnson.
