Richard Witt, Hoschler post adjutant dies unexpectedly

Richard L. Witt, 50, Akron, died unexpectedly at his farm home sunday (October 2, 1980) of an apparent heart attack.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Trinity Lutheran church in Akron. The Rev. Marvin Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, under direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Hoschler American Legion post 186, Akron.

Pallbearers are Gaynor Harris, Stuart Harris, Lee Harris, Calvin Robertson, Delmar Gerriets and Steve Burrack.

Mr. Witt was born October 24, 1929, at Akron. He was a graduate of Akron high school. He served with the army in Korea from 1951 until 1953. He was a lifelong area farmer and also had done some trucking since 1975.

He was an active member of Hoschler American Legion post 186, where he was serving as adjutant. He was a past commander of post 186, past commander of the Plymouth county American Legion and former high school oratorical director of the 8th district legion.

Mr. Witt was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Akron, president of the Trinity Lutheran Church Men, and served as head usher for the church for many years. He served as Portland township assessor for 25 years and was clerk of Portland township for many years.

He is survived by his parents Albert and Frances Witt; on brother, Robert Witt; a sister-inlaw, Joyce; and two nephews, Bryan and Bradley Witt, all of Rock Rapids.
