9 January 2000Leona L. Utesch, 86, of South Sioux City, formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Regency Square in South Sioux City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill G. Muller officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Utesch was born June 21, 1913, in Walnut, Ill., the daughter of John and Helen (Lemack) Lemke. She moved with her family to Merrill in 1918. She graduated from Merrill High School in 1930.
She married Fred A. Utesch on July 3, 1931, in Brunsville, Iowa. He died April 8, 1990.
The couple made their home in Le Mars, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in 1952. She was employed with Ben Franklin in downtown Sioux City for many years.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Betty and Donald J. Wilmes of Sioux City and Joan and Tom Bohlke of Hinton, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Clarence and Earl Lemke, and a great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Trevor, Barry, Shane and Travis Bohlke, Kasey Vergith and Donald Wilmes Jr.
