Earl H. Sargent

Earl H. Sargent, 93, of Remsen, Iowa, formerly of Akron and LeMars, Iowa, died Thursday, Aug. 27,1998, at the Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen following a lengthy illness. Services were held Saturday, Aug. 29 at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Rev. Justin May, pastor of First Church of Christ in Akron officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Richard and Jason Philips, Bill Gant, Stanis Chicoine, Merlin Brown and Bruce Smith.

Mr. Sargent was born July 10, 1905, in Richland, S.D., the son of Herbert and Nellie (Butcher) Sargent. He married Bessie Philips on Feb. 7,1926, in Adaville, Iowa. She died May 30, 1967. He farmed in the Akron area until 1968. He then moved to LeMars and married Edna Lempke in 1968. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in LeMars.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Kathleen and Jack Port of LeMars; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Bessie; one son, Robert; his second wife,
Edna; one sister, Dorothy Stewart.
