Death of Prof. Frank E. Rieger

J. P. Rieger of this city is in receipt of the sad intelligence of the death of his son which occurred at Fayette, Idaho. Mr. F. E. Rieger was in business in this city some three years ago and conducted a music store. His early death will be regretted by many here. The Fayette paper in speaking of his demise says:

A gloom has been cast over this community by the death of Prof. F. E. Rieger, which occurred Monday evening, Prof. Rieger had been sick of typhoid fever only a few days and it was believed up to within a few hours before his death that his condition was not critical. The announcement of his death was a great shock to his many friends and to all who knew him; because during a residence of fifteen months in this city he had endeared himself to everyone with whom he came in contact. He was a hig-minded Christian gentleman, one of the most winsome men it has ever been our pleasure to know. The saying that "death loves a shining mark," was never more forcibly ipressed on any community than in this man's death.

He was only 37 years old, in the very prime of vigorous manhood; by birth and training a gentleman, and by educational acquirements spendidly equipped for life's great battle; his memory will be cherished by his pupils, associate teachers and all who knew him, long after his mortal remains shall have mouldered back to mother earth.Such a life as he lived among as is worthy of emulation.

He leaves a young wife and two small children to mourn the los of an indulgent and loving husband and father, and to them has gone out the heartfelt condolence of this entire community.

The funeral took place from the Christian church, of which deceased was a sonsistent and active member, at 11 o'clock Wednesday. The teachers and pupils of the public schools attended in a body. Rev. G. L. Surber conducted the service, being assisted by Rev. Hunt, of the Presbyterian church, Revs. Dulin and Lydsou of the Baptist church. The choir of the Christian church furnished music for the occasion. The funeral discourse by Rev. Surber was very impressive. The procession that followed the remains to Riverside cemetery presented a very impressive spectacle, the long cortege being led by the school children in marching order, each wearing a badge of mourning.

Prof. Rieger had been a successful educator in Chicago and other Illinois cities and North Dakota, previous to becoming a citizen of Fayette.
