GEORGE REMBE DIES

WAS HOMESTEADER IN PRESTON TOWNSHIP

PROMINENT IN MASONIC CIRCLES

The Decesed Was Active In Public Affairs and Held Many Offices In County and Township--Lived a Useful Life.

George Rembe, a pioneer settler in Plymouth county, died at his home 1301 Madison street, yesterday morning after an illness of several months from heart trouble and other complications. He had been confined to bed since Christmas.

George Rembe was born near Mannheim, Bavaria, Germany, on November 6, 1847. He grew up on his father's farm in his his native land, and when a boy of seventeen his father died leaving George to take of things. Mr. Rembe was married at the age of 20 to Dora Yutze, and in the fall of 1869 they came to America. They lived at Warren, Illinois, for two years and then came to Plymouth county and homesteaded land in Preston township. They developed the land into a good farm and prospered there, returing in 1902 to live in Le Mars.

Mrs. Rembe died about two years ago.

Mr. Rembe is survived by eight children. Mrs. W. E. Croft, of Seattle, Wash.; George and Phillip, of Preston towhship; Anne of Le Mars; William, who is assistant cashier of the German American Savings bank; Mrs. S. D. Pierson of Le Mars; Mamie, of Seattle, Wash., and Fred, of Topeka, Kan.

Mr. Rembe was active in public affairs during his long life. In his township he served as school director for a period of nineteen years, and as a treasurer for nine years and was assessor for several terms. He was a member of the board of supervisors in the ninties and was a chairman of the board.

Mr. Rembe was aprominent Mason and was a member of the blue lodge, chapter and commandery of Le Mars, and of the consistory and the temple of the Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine at Sioux City.

Mr. Rembe was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of this city. Geo. Rembe was a good citizen and a progressive farmer and enjoyed the respect and esteem of the community.

The funeral arrangements are not completed, awaiting word from relatives in Washington who have been notified of his death, but will probably be held on Monday with Masonic honors.
