Randy Hillrichs, 56, of rural Akron, Iowa passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Hawarden Regional Healthcare in Hawarden, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa. Reverend Ben Worley will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery near Craig. Visitation with the family present will be after 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013 with a Prayer service at 5:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Visitation will resume from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Monday at the church.

Randy Robert Hillrichs was born June 7, 1956 in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Robert and Shirley (Cain) Hillrichs. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Craig. He attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1975.

Following his graduation, Randy farmed with his father near Akron. Later, Randy worked part time for Scanada in Akron until going to work part time for the Farmers Elevator Coop in Hawarden. Later, Randy went to work fulltime at the elevator. Randy continued to raise cattle and calves and do custom bailing for area farmers. He retired due to this health.

Randy was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Craig where he served as an usher for many years. He was an avid collector of John Deere Tractors and loved to attend toy shows with his family and friends. Randy was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing. He loved animals. Whether it was raising cattle, growing crops, or tending to the field, farming was Randy’s life. Randy will be remembered for his willingness to help anybody with anything. He will be greatly missed.

Those blessed to have shared his life include his mother, Shirley of rural Akron; his sister: Sheryl (Dave) Miller of Le Mars, IA; his aunts and uncles: Ken (Barb) Cain of Sioux City, IA, Ardis (Dallas) Huebner of Hawarden, IA, Shirley Cain of Hawarden, IA, Marilyn Hillrichs of Fremont, NE, and Lois (Ervin) Stevens of Centerville, SD; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hillrichs; his uncles: Erlyn Cain, Don Hillrichs, and Lowell (Cornelia) Hillrichs; and a cousin: Mark Hillrichs.
