Another of the pioneer women of western Plymouth county answered the final summons in the passing away of Mrs. Thos. W. Lias at her home in Akron, Iowa, Monday, July 23, 1923, after a long and useful life, a, the ripe age of 89 years, 8 months and 28 days. Grandma Lias had been in falling health for some time, yet retained her faculties to a remarkable degree up to the last, except for partial
deafness.

Susan Jeannette Morse was born in Chautauqua county, New York, October 31, 1833, where she lived with her parents until they moved to Jackson county, Iowa. There she met her husband, Thomas W. Lias, to whom she was married on February 11, 1867.

In the spring of 1872, Mr. and Mrs. Lias and family moved to Plymouth county, Iowa, and homesteaded near Adaville, where they lived and labored a good many years, enduring the privations of the early settlers In this section of the country. Seven children came to bring sunshine to their home, of whom Edwin Scott died in little over three years ago, Lucy died in infancy and Mary when twelve years of age.

Those who remain to mourn their loss are four sons—Will S. Lias, of Grass Range, Montana, George H. and Harry J Lias, of Akron, and Charles R. Lias, of Westfield. Iowa.. Besides these four sons, there are twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren, who have been bereft of a true friend and helper.

After retiring from farm life. Mr. and Mrs. Lias went to Akron to reside, and there on March 26, 1907. Mr. Lias, a veteran of the Civil War. was called to his reward.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. J . Poppenheimor in the Akron M. E. church Wednesday afternoon. A large concourse of friends assembled as a last tribute of respect and the pallbearers were old time acquaintances. Interment was in Riverside cemetery, beside her departed husband.
