PROMINENT FARMER SUMMONED AFTER EXTENDED ILLNESS

Henry T. Kleihauer Had Lived Here More Than Forty-six Years

Henry T. Kleihauer, a well known and highly esteemed fanner of Portland township, and a member of this community for more than forty-six years, passed away at his home, north east of town. Saturday morning, May 6, 1944, at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 19 days. He became ill last January and was taken to the Akron Hospital. His life was despaired of for a time, but he responded to treatment, and after five or six weeks was permitted to return to his home. At times his condition was encouraging, but on Wednesday of last week the old ailment returned and he vas called to his eternal reward after sixteen weeks of suffering.

Henry Tjarks Kleihauer, eldest of three sons of Win. and Marie Kleihauer, was born November 17, 1865, at Oldenburg, Germany, where he was baptized in the Lutheran church. As a child, he came to America with his parents and two brothers and settled at Hopkins, Whiteside county, Illinois, where he grew to young manhood. At the age of 14 he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On March 7, 1889, he was united in holy wedlock with Bertha Eden. In 1897 Mr. Kleihauer and family came to Plymouth county, Iowa, and located on a farm near Akron. They have resided here ever since.

During all these years Mr. Kleihauer has been a faithful and consistent member of Trinity Lutheran church, of this city, serving as secretary of the congregation for thirteen years, and it was during this time that the present church edifice was erected. Industrious and honest in all his dealings, He was a man of his, word. He enjoyed a long life of health and usefulness, and in the community in which he had lived so many years he will be genuinely missed and mourned by a host of friends as well as by those near and dear to him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Bertha; four children, Mrs. Paul Meske and Henry, at home; Mrs. Alfred Meske, of Spink, S. D., and George, of Akron; also by 8 grandchildren, one brother, H. G. Kleihauer, of Akron, and many other relatives

One son, Martin, preceded him in death in 1941. The sympathy of the community is extended the bereaved family.

Funeral services were hold Tuesday afternoon from the home and at Trinity Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. J. A. Pannkuk, the pastor, and there was a large attendance. Phyllis Stryzewski and Arlene Milbrodt sang two songs, "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Saved By Grace." Pallbearers were August Meske, Henry Hitzemann, Fred Hillrichs, Andy Schuster, E, Stoner and John Miniets. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
