Dorothy Loretta Hope

Dorothy Loretta Hope, 83, Akron, died Friday (Sept. 1, 1989) in a Sioux City hospital of a brief illness.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist church in Akron. Rev. Burl Ratzsch officiated. Larry Johnson, vocalist, sang "Beyond The Sunset" and "Just A Closer Walk", accompanied on the organ by Janet Merrick. Burial was in Riverside cemetery in Akron, under direction of the Schroeder funeral home of Akron.

Pallbearers were Brent Eilers, Steve Eilers, Brian Eilers, Randy Eilers, Randy Hope and Keith Hope.

Mrs. Hope, the former Dorothy Loretta Johnson, was born July 21, 1906 at Alcester, S.D. to Charles and Emma (Anderton) Johnson. She was raised near Alcester and attended the Big Springs grade school and Alcester high school. She graduated in 1924 from the Akron high school. After her marriage to Leland Hope, Sept. 9, 1933 in St. Louis, Mo., the couple moved to Rock Valley, Hawarden and on to California for 10 years. She then moved back to Alcester and finally to the Akron area.

She was a cook at the Akron school for several years and worked for the Akron Bowling Alley. She also worked for Ina and Walter Young Catering Service, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the First Baptist church in Akron.

Survivors include two sons, Gary L. Hope of Fresno, Calif., and Greg C. Hope of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Dorothy) Eilers of Apple Valley, Minn.; two sisters, Emily and Eleanor Johnson of Alcester; two brothers, Andrew Johnson of Sioux Falls and Robert Johnson of Alcester; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and eight sisters.
