GEORGE EBRECHT CROSSES DIVIDE. FORMER RESIDENT OF REMSEN AND LE MARS SUCCUMBS TO PNEUMONIA.
George Ebrecht, a well known resident of Remsen and Le Mars, in earlier days, died at his home, 2506 McFaul avenue, Sioux City, Friday, December 21, after a brief illness of pneumonia. Mr. Ebrecht had made his home in Sioux City for the past nineteen years prior to which time he lived in Le Mars for a number of years.
Mr. Ebrecht was 75 years of age and was born February 11, 1843 in Prussia, Europe, where he received his education and grew to manhood. When a youth of 22 he came to the United States and in 1865 located with others of his countrymen in Benton county where he engaged in farming and later lived in Carroll county. He came to Plymouth county in the early eighties and farmed with success on land which he bought south of Remsen.
Mr. Ebrecht was united in marriage in 1876 with Miss Emeline Stang, a sister of A. J. Stang, former Plymouth county treasurer. Mrs. Ebrecht died in 1921.
Mr. Ebrecht is survived by a son and four daughters, Mrs. John Groth, of Oakland, Calif.; George M .C. Ebrecht, Emma and Lydia Ebrecht and Mrs. Ralph Ruggles, of Sioux City. There are five grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, August Ebrecht, of Le Mars.
The funeral was held at Remsen with services in the Lutheran church Sunday afternoon, Rev. P. Matthiedes of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, in Sioux City, officiating and the interment made in the Remsen cemetery.
Mr. Ebrecht was a frequent visitor to Le Mars since giving up his residence here and had many friends and acquaintances. He was a good citizen and a most pleasant man to meet and enjoyed the esteem of a large number of people who knew him over a period of more than half a century. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Dec. 25, 1928, page 1.
