Mrs. George E. Waterbury, one the pioneers of, Sioux Valley township, Union county, S. D., passed away her home there Sunday. November 3, 1918, after an extended illness of ailments incident to advanced age.

Ellen (Brown) Waterbury was born in Connecticut, March 2S, 1847, and attained the age of 71 years, 7 month, and 5 days. She was united in marriage to George K. Waterbury in Connecticut, May 5, 1867, and to this union six children were born—Clarence, Carrie (Haynes) , Irving Charles, Albert and Nellie (Kaelke)—all living and residents of this vicinity.

Mr. and Mrs. Waterbury came west from Connecticut and located ill Dakota territory in May, 1871, homesteading the place in Union county which has ever since remained the family home, and there experiencing many of the trials and privations of the early days. The husband and father passed to his reward in August, 1915. Mrs. Waterbury was devotedly attached to he home and family and her long life was filled with good deeds and helpfulness.

The community tenders its sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.

Funeral services were conducted a the family home Tuesday afternoon by Rev. M. K Spahr, of the Akron M. K church, of which denomination de
ceased was a member for many years. Interment was made beside her husband in Riverside cemetery.
