Waterbury, Mary "Alice" 1876 - 1954

Mrs. Alice Waterbury, who passed away at the Akron Community Hospital on Wednesday evening, January 13, 1954, after an extended illness of a heart ailment, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 28 days.

Mary Alice, daugther of John and Lena Stoutenburg, was born in Ulstei county, New York, on August 10, 1876. At the age of five years she came west with her parents and settled in Le Mars, Iowa, where she spent her girlhood and received her education. In the spring of 1891 the family moved to Akron. For several years she was employed as a clerk in the local general stores. On April 10,1904, she was united in marriage with Harry Waterbury. To this union two children were born, M-Sgt. John H. Waterbury, serving in the U. S. army and now stationed on the island of Okinawa, and a daughter, Eileene, of Akron.

Following the death of her husband in 1925, Mrs. Waterbury took up practical nursing and spent the next twenty' years working faithfully at the Akron Hospital. Her cheerful manner and devotion to duty were greatly appreciated by all with whom she came in contact. For the past twenty years Mrs. Waterbury had been a member of the Methodist church in Akron and was sustained by her Christian faith throughout her life.

She is survived by one son, John H. Waterbury, and one daughter, Miss Eileene Waterbury; a grandson, other relatives and a host of friends, by whom she will be sincerely missed.

Preceding her in; death were her, parents, Her only brother, Howard Stoutenburg, and two sisters,. Miss. Clara Stoutenburg and Mrs. Edith Carratte.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Wesley Methodist church, Rev. D. H. James officiating. Music was by a quartet comprised of. Arden Johnson, Fred Mathers Harry Nelson and Karl Silkebakken, with Mrs. Pearl Pollock as accompanist.

Pallbearers were Rollo Baker, Gene Lias, Fay Kerr, James Jensora,, Velion Barr and Louis Sprenger, Jr. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
