William Laux Answers Call

Well Known Le Mars Resident Many Years

William Laux, 81, resident of Le Mars since early youth and well known citizen, died Thursday night at his home, 115 First avenue SE. Mr. Laux had been in failing health for the past few years and three weeks ago his condition began to be critical and he failed rapidly.

Mr. Laux was born on a farm near Cedar Lake, Indiana, February 18, 1861, and was a son of Stephen S. and Anna Mary (Musbach) Laux.

Mr. Laux came with his brothers, John and Emil Laux, to Le Mars in 1876. The brothers engaged in the general merchandise business after coming to Le Mars for some years and then dissolved partnership. William Laux engaged in business on his own account. For many years he was a traveling salesman and among firms he represented for many years were the Wm. Tackaberry Grocery company and the Tolerton Stetson company, of Sioux City.

Of late years owing to failing health he had lived in retirement. When a young man he was married to Miss Lydia Duerr, a member of a well known pioneer family of Le Mars, who survives him, with two daughters, Berenice and Lucille, and a son, Russell Laux. He also leaves a brother, Emil Laux, and a sister, Mary Laux, of Le Mars. A brother, John Laux, died in 1940.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the residence. The services were conducted by Rev. Paul G. Viehe of Le Mars and interment made in the city cemetery in charge of the Mauer funeral home.

The pall bearers were R. L. Claussen, Jos. A. Duster, Clarence Hoorneman, J. G. Koenig, Chris Utech and W. K. Veale.
