Rites Saturday for Emma Schumacher.
Emma Margaret Schumacher, 100, of Remsen died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1993 at Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Remsen City Cemetery under direction of the Moeller Funeral Home.
Mrs. Schumacher was born Jan. 18, 1893, in Plymouth County, near Remsen, daughter of John and Augusta (Jorgensen) Haack. She graduated from Remsen High School and taught in rural schools for a number of years.
She married Carl Edward Schumacher April 9, 1915, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The couple moved to Eldora where they owned and operated a grocery store with his brother, William. They returned to Remsen in 1918 and for a number of years operated a grocery store. He died in 1962.
Mrs. Schumacher was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Surviving are three sons, Robert and James of Remsen and Paul of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter Mrs. Walter (Jane) Letsche of Cherokee; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Bertha Janssen of Lake Park, Ia. and Alma Haack of Remsen.
She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; six sisters; and two brothers.
Casket bearers were Phil Letsche, Steve Cockburn, Duane Drum, Jim Lickiss, Kirk Letsche and Dan Schumacher. – Remsen Bell-Enterprise, Dec. 23, 1993.
