Murl Tonsfeldt, 95, of Granville, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City.
Murl was born Nov. 8, 1914, at rural Remsen, the son of August and Mabel (Cook) Tonsfeldt. Murl was raised in the Remsen area and received his education at both rural and public school graduating from Alton High School in 1933. After graduation he farmed with his father. In 1938 he moved to California and worked for Campbell Construction and then Hughes Aircraft in the assembly plant.
On Jan. 19, 1940, he married Lillian Beelner at Madera, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian of Orange City; one daughter, Sandra M. Landman and her husband L. Charles, Jr. of Winona, Minn.; one brother, Clifford Tonsfeldt and his wife Lavonne of Remsen; two sisters, Marian Taylor and her husband Dale of Marcus and Joyce Mercer of Fonda; one sister-in-law, Dee Tonsfeldt-Mulder and her husband Ed of Spirit Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Wallace Tonsfeldt; one brother-in-law, Robert Mercer; and one granddaughter, Lilli Mae Landman. – family news clipping.
