Henry William Tammen, 88. of Craig died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars, Iowa. Services were held Friday, Jan. 9 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, with the Rev. Douglas Dowling officiating. Burial was in St. John Evangelical Cemetery. Pall bearers were William Renken, Joe De Young, Larry Oltmanns, Stan Pageler, Gail Clausen and Lowell Hillrichs.

Mr. Tammen was born March 1, 1909, in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Tony and Anna (Ludwigs) Tammen.

He married Emma Pageler on Oct. 19, 1932, in Craig. The couple farmed in Craig and Johnson townships for several years. He retired in 1968, and moved to Craig, where he worked for the town of Craig plowing snow and mowing grass until 1981. He entered Brentwood Good, Samaritan Center in 1985. Mrs. Tammen died May 5, 1986. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Joan and Melvin Plueger of LeMars; a granddaughter, Laurie Schweitzberger; and two sisters-in-law, Lily Tammen of Merrill, Iowa, and Viola Tammen of Dell Rapids, S.D.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, John, George, Edward and Elmer Tammen; and a sister-in-law, Nora Tammen.
