Remsen employee William Bentz dead at 52.
William E. Bentz, 52, Remsen street superintendent, died unexpectedly at 1 a.m. Friday (Oct. 19, 1973) at Sioux City St. Joseph Mercy hospital following brain surgery. He had been hospitalized one week.
Before being named street superintendent several years ago, Mr. Bentz served as Remsen chief of police.
Br. Bentz was born Dec. 4, 1920, At Remsen, the son of Hanna Bentz, a resident at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center and the late Mr. Bentz.
He resided at Remsen until about 1940 when he moved to Waterloo where he was employed at Rath Packing and John Deere Implement for a number of years.
In 1953 he returned to Remsen and engaged in the masonry business with his brothers. He later was named police chief.
Mr. Bentz was married Dec. 22, 1951, at the Little Brown church in the Vale, Nashua.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church, Remsen.
Burial will be in the Remsen cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home, Remsen.
Survivors in addition to his mother are his wife, Neva, an employee at Floyd Valley hospital; a daughter Ricky Sue; two sons, William K. and Terrence Paul, both of Waterloo; three brothers, Kenneth and Roy, both of Remsen and Darrell of Orange City and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and a granddaughter. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, Oct. 19, 1973, page 1.
