John Dallenbach, Aged Remsen Resident, Died Last Week.
Remsen Bell-Enterprise: Death came suddenly and unexpectedly late Tuesday to John Dallenbach, 84, one of Remsen’s oldest in years and in point of residence. He had been living in this territory for 64 years. Surviving are the widow, Mathilda, and two sons. Funeral services will be held Friday.
Mr. Dallenbach was in excellent health, apparently, but three weeks ago was a patient with pneumonia, form which he recovered. He was about as usual since leaving the sickroom, but during the last few days complained of a weakness. He was downtown Tuesday, mingled with friends and spent the evening at home, enjoying a game of cards with his family. He retired at his customary hour and at 11 o’clock Mrs. Dallenbach found him dead.
John Dallenbach was born April 28, 1864, in Muncheonbuchsee, Switzerland, and at the age of 20 years, in 1884, came to this country alone and settled at Elgin, Iowa. He worked on farms in that vicinity for two years, then came to Remsen, April 28, 1888. He married Emma Michel, member of a local family, who preceded him in death. On Apr4, 1912, he married Mrs. Mathilda Strohbeen of Remsen. They farmed here successfully until their retirement to town. Mr. and Mrs. Dallenbach spent 16 years farming near Woodstock, Minn., returning to Remsen in 1919, occupying their home in the north end until two years ago when the family bought the present home on Main street.
Mr. Dallenbach was the father of four children, two of them preceded him in death. Those living are Ambrose, Morton, Minn., and Alfred, sharing the family home.
Funeral services at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church were conducted by Rev. Paul Wuebben and burial was in Remsen cemetery. – Le Mar Semi-Weekly Sentinel, May 14, 1948, page 4.
