REMSEN. From the News.
Gustaf Strohbeen died at his home four miles north of here Friday afternoon [of an] illness of nearly sixteen years. He was suffering from creeping paralysis. He was born in Benton county, Iowa, in 1863, and was forty-five years of age at the time of his death. He had been a continuous resident of this vicinity over twenty-five years and was highly respected by everyone who knew him. In 1885 he was married to Miss Kate Hanpert, of Belle Plaine, Iowa. To this union one child was born, being Mrs. Nick Peschan, of Adrian, Minnesota. About nineteen years ago his wife died and two years later he was married to Miss Matilda Orhlerts, of Belle Plaine. She with two daughters survive him, they being Emma and Olga. Mr. Strohbeen was a patient sufferer and when one thinks of the sixteen long years of suffering that he went through, patiently and without murmur, one cannot but admire the splendid courage he possessed. The funeral was held from St. Paul’s Evangelical church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon and the services were conducted by Rev. H. C. Dahlmann. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, July 7, 1908, page 2.
