Death Takes Old Remsen Resident. George Raveling Here Sixty Years.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in St. Paul’s Evangelical church at Remsen for George Raveling, 77, early settler in the county.
Born in Ost Friesland, Germany, in 1865, George Raveling came to this country with his parents in 1882, the family locating on a farm near Remsen. He later engaged in farming on his own account.
Mr. Raveling was united in marriage on February 21, 1894, to Amelia Meyers, who passed away on March 18, 1926. Five children were born to this union, all living. The children are: William, Lucan, Minn.; Minnie and Herman at home; Otto, farming south of Remsen, and Mrs. Leo Spielman, also farming near Remsen. There are two grandchildren, Elaine and Lvonne Raveling, daughters of Wm. Raveling, of Lucan.
Mr. Raveling died Monday after several months illness. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Oct. 9, 1942, page 1.
