Henry Schorg Dies in Hospital. Plymouth Pioneer Passes Away at 83. Bell Enterprise: Death, Wednesday, October 4, claimed another early settler of eastern Plymouth county – Henry Schorg, 83, who passed away in the Sacred Heart hospital, Le Mars. Funeral services will be held here Saturday at Christ Lutheran church, with the Rev. A. Noack conducting the services.
Mr. Schorg, who made his home among his several children in recent years, principally with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Schorg of Remsen, went to Le Mars last month to enjoy the company of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Asmussen.
Mr. Schorg had been in failing health with a heart ailment for several years and while with the Asmussens took severely ill and was admitted to the hospital three weeks ago. His condition gradually grew worse in spite of excellent care and his death was foreseen. The end came at 2:20 o’clock Wednesday afternoon.
Born July 20, 1876 at Guttenburg, Iowa, he was the son of Henry and Elizabeth Schorg, pioneer settlers in that community. He lived at home when he came to Plymouth county, southeast of Remsen. Although he worked on farms in Cherokee county for a time, he soon settled in this county and lived here throughout the remainder of his life.
On April 4, 1895, Mr. Schorg married Anna Dose of Amherst area, the marriage taking place in Trinity Lutheran church there. The couple went to farming in this county, soon bought their own farm and labored faithfully and diligently together until their retirement to Remsen in 1919. Mrs. Schorg passed away here June 26, 1940.
A lifelong member of the Lutheran faith, Mr. Schorg was a staunch church member and took an active part in the affairs of Christ Lutheran Congregation in Remsen. He was a man of excellent character, admired by a host of friends as a splendid citizen and a good husband and father, a loyal friend who held the highest esteem of his every acquaintance.
Surviving are three daughters and three sons. They are: Leonard Schorg, Remsen; Arley Schorg, Le Mars; Weldon Schorg, Costa mesa, Calif; Mrs. Ted (Melita) Duecker, Fort Dodge, Iowa; Mrs. Wm (Madeline) Asmussen, Le Mars and Ms. Mable Birch, Los Angeles. A son, Emory, and a daughter, Mrs. Valley Crouse, preceded him in death.
Other survivors include five brothers and two sisters. – John Schorg, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Frank Schorg, Guttenburg, Iowa; Wm. Schorg, Robbinsdale, Minn.; Herman Schorg, Remsen; Edward Schorg, Sacramento, Calif.; Mary Schroeder, Guttenburg; Selma Walke, Farmersburg, Iowa. His brothers August and Emil and his sisters Mrs. Lizzie Tschole and Mrs. Sophie Hodgen, preceded him in death.
The body is at the Fisch funeral home, which has charge of burial arrangements. Services will be held there Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock followed by services in Christ Lutheran church. The Rev. A. Noack will conduct the sacred rites, with burial in the Remsen cemetery. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Oct. 10, 1950, page 5.
