Henry Peters was born on the 24th of April, 1855 at Marme, Germany. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in boyhood at that place, being at that time fifteen years of age. He emigrated to this country in 1881. He was married to Friedericka Oldehof June 29, 1888 at Avoca, Iowa. One year later he moved to a farm near Remsen where he resided until 1910 when he moved to Germantown in this county (OBrien). He died a member of St. John’s Lutheran church at Germantown at 65 years 8 months and 22 days.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, two sons, George Peters of near Marcus and William Peters of Germantown; four daughters Mrs. William [Otto] Kroeger of near Marcus, Mrs. Bruard Straub, of near Germantown, Miss Dora who lives at the family home, and Mrs. Herman Ohlendorf of near Marcus.
The deceased had endured a sickness for the past year and a half, being a sufferer from cancer of the stomach. The summons death came Saturday morning, January 15th at one o’clock a.m. at his home in Germantown. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church [Christ Lutheran] at Remsen Monday afternoon at one o’clock, Rev. Potratz of Germantown officiating, being assisted by Rev. Wahlers, of Remsen. Interment was in the Remsen burial grounds. - “The Paullina Times”, Thursday evening, January 20, 1921

The funeral of Henry Peters of Germantown, who died last Saturday was held in Remsen Monday afternoon and was very largely attending. Many friends and neighbors from Germantown, where the deceased had lived for a number of years, followed the cortege to Remsen and joined the old time friends here at the funeral services. The services were conducted in Christ Lutheran church by Rev. Wahlers, and interment was in the Remsen cemetery. Mr. Peters was formerly a resident of this community, and was a man highly esteemed by all who knew him. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Jan. 25, 1921, page 6.
