August Paul Nitzschke, 96 of Remsen, Iowa, entered the Lord’s home on December 6, 2011.

Funeral service will be Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 10:00a.m. from Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen with Pastor Dennis Martens officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Friday, December 9th, 2011 beginning at 4:00p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00p.m. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

August was born to Edward and Alvina (Erichsen) Nitzschke on April 8, 1915 in rural Remsen. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church rural Marcus in 1915. He was confirmed April 13, 1930 at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. He married Loretta Maass on August 29, 1940 at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen.

August was a 4-H leader for the Remsen Ramblers, a school director of the Meadow Township Country School and a Farm Bureau director for many years and held various offices at Christ Lutheran Church. His church was a very important part of his life. August and Loretta lived and farmed northeast of Remsen for 42 years before moving to Remsen. He enjoyed fishing, swinging on his outdoor swing, spending time with children, cooking and baking in his later years. He was so proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments and spending time with his family and friends.

August is survived by two sons and a daughter, Robert (Nancy Klashen) Nitzschke of Yankton, SD and Rodney (Cheri Harpenau) Nitzschke and Carolyn (Steve Niehus) both of Remsen. He had five grandchildren. Cindy (Jay Sohler) of Yankton, SD; Michael (Katy Gogerty) Niehus of Polk City; Brian Niehus of Sioux City; Alicia (Alex Hoffman) and Aaron Nitzschke of Remsen. Great-grandchildren are Clayton, Tyler and Corbin Sohler; Braya Niehus and Harper Niehus. He is survived by one brother, Lloyd (Gloria) Nitzschke of Rock Rapids, Iowa; sister-in-law Joann Nitzschke of Remsen; brother-in laws, Joe Ritchie of Le Mars, Iowa; Floyd (Edna) Maass of Colorado Springs, CO; Kenneth (Bethene) Maass and Arnold (Sharon) Maass of Remsen, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife Loretta, his parents, his brothers, Lyle and Donald, and his sisters Lucille Anderson and Dorothy Presuhn.
