Obituary. Joseph Hettwer.
Funeral services for Joseph Hettwer, 83, longtime Plymouth county resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Luken-Johnson funeral home in Le Mars.
Rev. Arnold Imbrock will officiate and burial will be in the Remsen city cemetery.
Mr. Hettwer died at Floyd Valley hospital Monday morning after a brief illness. He was hospitalized for six days.
He was born Nov. 13, 1885, in Germany and was a retired highway construction worker after 25 years.
He came to the United States in 1911 and to Le Mars in 1918. His parents were the late Andrewas and Matilda Keller Hettwer. His marriage to Elizabeth Grothe took place July 12, 1930, at Sioux City.
Survivors are his wife, Le Mars; four sons, Raymond, Madison, Ill.; Kenneth, Le Mars; Robert, Freehold, N.J., and Richard, Keensberg, N.J.; seven daughters, Mrs. Homer (Maglin) Ritchie, Kingsley; Mrs. Jess (Irna) Ernst, Moville; Mrs. Fred (Delores) Hoxsie, Mrs. Wilbur (Carleen) Petersen, Mrs. Arlan (Mary) Luschen and Mrs. Bill (Judy) Dreckman, all of Le Mars, and Mrs. Ronald (Kay) Fiedler, Oyens. There are 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, May 13, 1969, page 7.
Note: His marriage to Elizabeth Grothe was likely his second marriage. His first marriage was to Emma H. Hettwer. She died in 1928. If this is wrong, please correct.
