DEATH TAKES OLD RESIDIENT
Mrs. Wilhelmina Baack Settled Here in Boom Days of Eighties
HOLD FUNERAL TODAY
Lived on Border Line Between Plymouth and SiouxDeath claimed Mrs. Wilhelmina Baack, pioneer resident of northwestern Iowa, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Winterfield, living near Craig in Grant township. Death was due principally to old age and failing vitality.
Mrs. Baack was a resident of LeMars for several years after retiring with her husband from active farm life spent on farms on the border lines of Plymouth and Sioux, fertile spots in agricultural Iowa at its best.
Johann Baack following his life as a successful farmer, bought a fine residence in Le Mars where he and his wife lived for a number of years until his death November 24, 1926.
Mrs. Baack was born in Mecklenberg-Schwerin, Germany, October 22, 1854, and grew up and was married in her native place.

Mr. and Mrs. Johann Baack learning of better conditions in America, determined to join thousands of others seeking a chance to live and obtain a livelihood and came directly to LeMars in the year of zenith for home seekers and land buyers.
Land in Sioux County
In the year of 1880 while sojourning with relatives and friends in LeMars and Grant township, they secured, a piece of land in Reading township, Sioux county. Taking up their home on the land they acquired by hard work and energy a fine farm and independence in their later years. They were admirable citizens, mindful of church, business and social obligations and gained the esteem of all who knew them.
Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Baack made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Winterfleid, In the immediate vicinity of Craig,
Mrs. Baack leaves to honor her memory her children, who are, Charles Baack, of Struble; John Baack, of Lake Benton, Minn.; Mrs. Amelia Albers, of Struble; Mrs. Louis Winterfeld, of Craig. There are seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two daughters, Mrs. L. Winterfeld and Mrs. Will Mandelkow, preceded their parents in death.
Funeral This Afternoon
The funeral will be held from the Winterfeld home this afternoon at 2 o'clock and services will be held in the Lutheran church in Craig at 2:30 p.m. Rev W.M. Mrs. Wilhelmina Baack, a pioneer of this vicinity, passed away July 4th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. J. Winterfeld, living near Craig. Death was due principally to old age and failing vitality.
Wilhelmina Warnke was born at Mecklenberg, Schwerene, Germany, Oct. 22, 1855, (should be 1854) and passed away July 4, 1933, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 13 days. She was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was united in marriage with John Baack in Germany April 22,1876, and this union was blessed with six children, two daughters having preceded their mother in death. She immigrated to America in 1880 with her husband and three children, coming to Reading township, and located on a farm. In 1908 Mr. and Mrs. Baack retired from active work and moved to LeMars where Mr. Baack passed away Nov. 24, 1926. Since the death of her husband Mrs. Baack made her home with her daughter near Craig.
She is survived by two sons, Charles of Reading township and John of Luverne, Minn., and two daughters, Mrs. Amelia Albers of Reading township and Mrs. L. J. Winterfeld of Craig. There are seventeen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock last Friday afternoon from the Winterfeld home and in the Lutheran church at Craig at 2:30 with Rev. Wm. Zibell in charge. Burial was made in the LeMars cemetery.
