Funeral services held Tuesday for Arvel Lake

Arvel R. Lake, 82, Akron, died Saturday (July 15, 1978) at Plymouth Manor care center, Le Mars, after a long illness.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Schroeder funeral home, Akron. The Rev. Lesley Williams, First Baptist church, officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery, Akron. Graveside services were conducted by the Akron Freedom Lodge AF & AM No. 434 and the Hoschler American Legion post 186. Pallbearers were Vernon Lias, Dick Bean, Gaynor Harris, Darcy Fletcher, Robert Brown, and Wendell Snow.

Mr. Lake was born April 17, 1896 at Durham, Mo. After serving in the U.S. army during World War I, he moved to Akron. On July 26, 1918, he married Mildred Clarence at Quincy, 111. Mrs. Lake died in 1974. Mr. Lake retired in 1960 from his position as a U.S. postal service rural carrier. He was Freedom Lodge worshipful master in 1935, a life member of the Hoschler American Legion post 186, for which he served as commander and county commander, a charter member of Plymouth barracks 1507 and was-a member of the First Baptist church.

Survivors include two sons, Wilmer, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jack, of Sioux City; Two daughters, Mrs. Blythe (Marjorie) McGuire, of Paradise, Cal., and Mrs. Floyd (Maxine) Wilcox, Akron; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cecil, Palmyra, Mo., and Arthur, Quincy, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Elsie) Lemen and Mrs. Harold (Velda) Peck, both of Akron.
