Obituary. Elizabeth Harnack
Elizabeth Harnack, 86, of Remsen died Oct. 22, 1974 at hospital in Le Mars of a brief illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Christ Lutheran church in Remsen.
Rev. Ervin C. Rodehorst will officiate. Burial will be in Remsen cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home.
Miss Harnack was born Sept. 6, 1888 in rural Remsen.
She was a graduate of Remsen high school. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in teaching from Iowa State teachers college at Cedar Falls in 1921 and a master’s degree in teaching from Wayne State college at Wayne Neb.
Miss Harnack taught school at Roland and in several other communities.
She taught in Detroit, Mich., school system for 30 years, retired about 10 years ago and returned to Remsen.
She was a member of the national retired teachers association and the Remsen library board of directors. She formerly served the board as a president.
She was an associate member of the Remsen women’s club and also was a member of the women’s missionary league of Christ Lutheran church in Remsen and the American Legion auxiliary, also in Remsen.
Survivors are a brother, John Harnack Jr., of Remsen and two nieces and three nephews. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, Oct. 24, 1974, page 2.
