L.D. Hagar Killed At Grade Crossing, One Of Two Men Fatally Injured.
Lawrence D. Hagar, 35, of Waterloo, son of George D. Hagar of Le Mars, was one of two men killed on a grade crossing when the car in which they were riding was stuck by a train seven miles southeast of Waterloo, Thursday afternoon. The other man killed was 72 year old Albert Mantzer also of Waterloo. Both men were killed instantly and the automobile in which they were riding was demolished.
The accident occurred at the small community of Raymond, southeast of Waterloo.
Mr. Hagar was formerly circulation employee of the Sioux City newspapers and for a time lived in Remsen then moved to Le Mars and worked out of here.
Mr. Hagar was born in Alton, Iowa, and received his education there and in Remsen. He moved from Le Mars about six years ago and had been employed in Waterloo with the sewing machine manufacturing concern recently.
He is survived by his parents and three children who at present live in Le Mars. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Oct. 1, 1946, page 1.
