Death removed another one of the oldest people of Remsen and a resident here for thirty-five years, when at an early hour Monday morning, Mrs. William Falke passed to her reward after an illness of three weeks. She was seventy-nine years of age. Dorothea Falke, the fourth child of Mr. and Mrs. Wilhelm Lenicker, was born on November 22, 1839 in the village of Ahmelgatzen, Province of Hanover, Germany, and grew to womanhood in her parental home. In 1864 she became the wife of William Falke, also of that place, the marriage taking place in Ahmelgatzen, where they continued to reside for thirteen years more. While still residing in Germany two children came to bless their home. They were Augusta, who later became the wife of August Steffen and died here in 1892; and Henry Falke, now one of Remsen’s leading business men. The little family came to the United States in 1877, settling on a farm south of Remsen in 1884. The family resided here ever since then. Mr. Falke worked the same farm, which he owned, for twenty years and moved to Remsen in retirement on December 12, 1904. The deceased is survived by her husband, one son, Henry Falke, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Jan 14, 1919, page 2.
