Velda B. Peck, 86, of Akron, Iowa, died unexpectedly Monday, June 23, 1997. at the Akron Six-plex.

Services were held Wednesday. June 25, 1997. at First Church of Christ, Akron, Iowa, with Pastor Justin May officiating. Music was . "He'll Rise Again" sung by Tim Kelley and Pat Michael, accompanied by Mika Rosenbaum on the organ. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Akron, Iowa, under direction of Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron. Casketbearers were Steve Wilcox, Scott Lake, Darcy Fletcher, Ron Prunty, Bruce Mclnnis, Richard Langley, Don Peters and Lyle Mclnnis. Honorary casket bearers were Charles Hendricks, Bob Lanning, Eldon Smith, Merlyn Klemme and Bob Loll.

Mrs. Peck was born June 5, 1911, in Durham, Missouri, the daughter of Albert and Katherine (Gross) Lake. Velda's mother died when she was born so Velda's oldest sister Elsie and her husband raised Velda along with their two children: Mildred Klemme and Albert Lee Lemen. She attended and graduated from school in Akron, Iowa. Velda married Harold Peck October 28, 1933, in Akron; he died in 1957. She joined the First Church of Christ in Akron at age 13 and was an active longtime member serving as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess, secretary, treasurer, pianist, and working in the Ladies Aid in may ways. Velda began her 25 year career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1948 working as a Postal Clerk until her retirement in 1973. .

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Haroldine (Dee) and A. Earl Hilliker of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Sherry and her husband Gaylen Rasmussen of South Sioux City, Nebraska and Nan and her husband Tracy Ankrum of Sioux City Iowa; six great-grandchildren, Angela, Ron, John, Nick, Amanda and Zachary; one step-great grandchild, Chad Rasmussen; two great-great grandchildren, Ashley and Chance; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and eight brothers and sisters.
